From Andrew Hottle, Professor of Art History at Rowan University, Glassboro, New Jersey, USA
I am researching and writing about Sylvia Sleigh (1916-2010), an artist who lived in the rectory at Pett for a number of years in the late 1940s and early 1950s. I hope to locate any of her paintings that remain in the area; they are usually signed and dated. I am also interested to learn more about the four people listed below. All of them were painted by her. I would be most grateful for any additional information.
1. A 15-year-old girl called Desirée who was painted in 1951. She might have been related to Sybella Stuart Watt, who lived at Broadhayes, Pett.
2. Gladys Hake (1885-1971), who was painted in 1954. She purchased at least one oil painting and one watercolour from Sylvia Sleigh.
3. Felicity Campbell (1916-1982), also known as Mrs John Patrick Walsh. She was an artist who lived at Friars Hill Cottage, Guestling.
4. Dawn Kingham, who lived in Goatham Lane, Brede. She served as a paid model for a few paintings in 1953 and 1954.
