Samaritans – ‘Time to talk, Time to Listen’

From 11.30 (for about an hour) in the main hall the Hastings and Rother Outreach Team of the Samaritans will be making a presentation, with discussion, entitled ’Time to Talk, Time to Listen’. It will focus on looking after ourselves and each other in these tough times. This is a very topical issue following the mental health and isolation problems arising from the lockdown and the continuing depressing national and international news. You will be very welcome to come along to listen and join in, and bring with you, or invite, any friends or relatives whom you think may be interested.

Coffee Morning and Community Library – next one on Wednesday 6th July

With patriotic bunting flying in Platinum Jubilee week, we were able to set up part of the Community Library outside for the June Coffee Morning, even though it was unseasonably cold with a chilly breeze. However, it gave us more room inside for celebration, coffee, cake and catching up, not to mention Hearing Aid support, the 500 Draw and the Parish Council. Kudos to David Penfold, our Parish Council chairman, who always turns up so that anyone may voice an opinion or ask a question about village matters. Other village groups are very welcome of course –  to publicise their events or simply to let themselves be known.
The Community Library Store, from which we draw our books, is moving location. Consequently, it has been quite challenging for library staff to meet our requests for new books over the last two months. Apologies to our regular borrowers, but we still have plenty of interest to read, even without new input. Our Books of the Month include our most borrowed book In a Land of Plenty by Tim Pears. This is a family saga set in the heart of England and opens in 1952. It has been made into a TV series. Another popular family saga is The Boy with No Boots, by Sheila Jeffries, the first of a trilogy about keeping family together in hard times.

Next Coffee Morning Wednesday 6th July, 10 – 12.

Towards the end of this July Coffee Morning, do please consider giving a little of your time to stay on for, or come to, a Samaritans presentation. From 11.30 (for about an hour) in the main hall at the Village Hall the Hastings and Rother Outreach Team of the Samaritans will be making a presentation, with discussion, entitled ’Time to Talk, Time to Listen’. More details will appear on Facebook, elsewhere in this edition of the magazine, the Village Hall website, Pett on the Net etc.

HELP Please or the post office at the Methodist Church may close!

We desperately need volunteers to help with the loading and unloading of the post office equipment at Pett Methodist Church.

It involves putting boxes onto a trolly from a car, and pushing it up the path into the church, and the reverse for loading. It takes about 15 minutes.

Times are MONDAY unloading 12.20  and loading 3.15pm   THURSDAY unloading 12.20 and unloading 3.15pm

Sadly if we can’t get help the post office will have to close. Even if you can only do one of the times on a regular basis it would be an amazing help. Any questions or you wat more info please ring Fran Molyneux 07738 674711

Thank you Fran
