Pett WI News from Belinda Wood, President – May Update

Pett WI News from Belinda Wood, President

Thank you to everyone who came along to our Spring Fair last month on a thankfully beautiful spring day (just after the Friday it snowed!) It was a fantastic event and on the day we raised almost £1,400 for the Conquest Hospital Macdonald Ward’s Courtyard Renovation Appeal. Following the event we were absolutely delighted to learn that Janet and Kit McLean were also donating a further £500 to aid our appeal with monies raised as a result of the very popular Elm Tree boot sales in Icklesham.  I will be covering more about this donation in my next news but for now we give grateful thanks to Janet and Kit for recognising our appeal in this way!

We are also so very grateful to the following for donating raffle prizes – Beauty by Susannah, Paul & Christine Fountain, Garden Gems, Saran Upton, The Old Butcher’s Shop and Wendy Burgess.  Also thank you to our sponsors Just Property (estate agent sign boards) and Impact Design & Print, St Leonards (A3 posters)

Stallholders were delighted with the success of this event so much so that many have already booked for our Winter Fair planned for Saturday 19 November at Pett Village Hall.  If you’d like more details about this event and to prebook please email  Huge thanks to Hilary Dymott, Trish Walker, Wendy Burgess, Sandra Clark and Jane Murray for superb coordination throughout and to many of our members who gave so generously of their time.

We are now busy with plans for our next major event which is our Jubilee Vintage Afternoon Tea Party to be held on Saturday 4 June at Pett Village Hall (see separate notice).   Email us at to reserve your tickets which are £12.50 each (£7.50 for 12s and under).  Ticket price includes a delicious afternoon tea including The Pett WI Royal Cake Stand, a small bottle of prosecco, bottomless tea/coffee and soft drinks and live 1950s-era entertainment from popular local songstress Sammy-Lou.

In March we welcomed Ian James from the Water Lane Walled Garden in Hawkhurst. Water Lane’s ethos is “Food – Flowers – Friends” and we can’t wait to make several return visits in the months ahead!

Our support of Rye FoodBank continues and we are also assisting Safehaven Women with donations of sanitary products due a shortage and rising costs and therefore demand.

Members of our Munch Club had a month off during April but our Theatre Club is currently very busy with three shows being planned.

Our new membership year began in April and we were able to offer new membership to many on our waiting list.  As such we are full again but please do email if you’d like to be included on our waiting list for the next time we have a vacancy.
