Pett WI July News

Pett WI News from Belinda Wood, President

We didn’t have to go too far to source May’s meeting speakers as we turned to two of our own members.  First we heard from Hilary Dymott who gave us a really illuminating talk about the recent history of Pett WI’s involvement with community projects.  During the 9 years of Hilary’s membership of Pett WI she has been the driving force behind many of our initiatives.  We are so grateful for her passion for everything she gets involved with and her incredible attention to detail with her project management.  We – and the community at large – are so incredibly fortunate to have her in our own WI!

The latest of Hilary’s-led projects for us is our support of the Conquest Hospital’s MacDonald Ward in respect of their current Courtyard Makeover appeal.  We are delighted to be working with our friends at Hastings & Ore WI on this as we felt that our combined efforts would strengthen the awareness and fundraising potential for the ward.  To start with we are helping to coordinate a launch event at the ward (date to be confirmed) for invited guests of the MacDonald ward led by Matron Mark Chamberlain.  Mark was also a guest speaker for us at our May meeting and said how impressed he had been when he met with Hilary to discuss how best we could assist the ward with their scheme.  In fact I think Mark was slightly overawed and totally impressed with the organisational capabilities of Hilary and her Pett WI Community Aid team!  Well, Mark, this is the WI you know!  This ward has such a significance to many of us and the courtyard, which is one of 21 at the Conquest Hospital, is in real need of a make-over for the use of its patients, visitors and staff!  If you would be interested in supporting the appeal please do visit the MacDonald Ward Facebook page or their Just Giving page at https://justgiving.com/campaign/macdonaldcourtyard

We are still taking items to Rye FoodBank on a fortnightly basis and of course ensuring any financial donations also get to those in need.  Thank you as ever for your continuing support.  Donations can either be made by cheque (made payable to Pett WI) and sent to Jane Sweaney at “Oakhurst”, Pett Road, Pett, TN35 4HG or made directly into the Pett WI Bank Account – Lloyds Bank – Sort Code: 30-98-97 – Account No: 70587368 – with the reference for both as “Food Bank” please.

A reminder, if anyone needs assistance from the Food Bank to please make contact with Rother District Citizens Advice & Representation Centre (HARC) on 0333 3440681 or email and they will be happy to help.

Also at our May meeting we had a very interesting insight from Icklesham resident Sandra Clark who talked about her career in care.  She also brought us right up to date with her “side hustle” which is her Funky Hen boutique which she runs as a local business from home.  We are excited to have Sandra working with us on a special fundraising event later this year – more details soon!

From mid-July we are hoping to meet in person again and although in August we don’t hold a meeting we really hope to be resuming again at Pett Village Hall in September.  Our current membership stands at 42 and to keep it manageable we are this year capping it at 45.  We are now enjoying regular coffee morning events and a new Ladies that Munch Club as well as an online What’s App social group.  If you are interested in being a part of this vibrant group please make contact with our secretary Amanda at
