I thought it might be helpful if I gave an update on Pett Village Hall and when we might be open again for business.
We have not been totally closed since March, as Harold Road Surgery have continued with their prescription service (but not doctor appointments) on Friday mornings (9-10am) and Monday afternoons (2-2.30pm).
While we have been closed for all other business, our maintenance team of Lue and Richard Cooke and Terry Cornish have been very busy keeping the hall clean, undertaking some maintenance jobs and carrying out redecoration in the toilets and the Catharine Hollman Room. We have kept the heating system operating and running the taps and flushing the toilets regularly so as to avoid any risk of legionnaire’s disease or other water-borne infections. The Village Hall Committee are very grateful for their hard work – we are so lucky to have such a dedicated team.
At the moment, it is possible that we may be able to open the hall for some events from 4 July, but much will depend on the state of the pandemic at that time and the conditions the Government may lay down for opening. It is almost certain that events will have to comply with social distancing rules which will mean that parties, receptions etc will still not be able to take place.
We are awaiting further advice from AIRS (Action in Rural Sussex) as to when and how we might be able to open again and I will let you know as soon as we hear any more.
We are starting to receive bookings again for later in the year and for 2021. I expect that there will be a high demand once we are fully open again and so if you are thinking of hiring the hall for a special event it may be a good idea to book it now, if only provisionally.
As already posted, we were fortunate in securing a grant of £10,000 from Rother District Council and so with our healthy balances our financial position is relatively strong, even though it costs £1,200+ each month to keep the hall going, with very little income.
Thanks for your understanding over these last few difficult months and the Committee look forward to returning the hall to full activity as soon as possible.
