February 2021

Dear Friend

Pett Church

This is a difficult time for every charity and Pett Church is no exception.  All our usual fund-raising events had to be cancelled in 2020 and at the moment 2021 events are possibly also at risk of cancellation.  In addition only a few services were held last year and so the usual weekly collections were not possible.

So your contribution as a Friend of Pett churches was very valuable last year and is even more desperately needed now.

A Friend might well ask:

Why does Pett Church need my contribution?

What will my contribution be spent on?

What do I get out of it?

The costs of running the church building have continued in spite of the lack of services.  For example, once the winter came we needed to switch the heating on from time to time to prevent the damage caused by damp.

In the autumn of 2020 our aged gas boiler died.  It was temporarily resuscitated but the diagnosis was poor and so we have had to incur the considerable expense of a new boiler.   We are fortunate to have been promised a generous amount towards this but it is quite costly and new wiring is also needed.  And decoration inside the church is long overdue.

As a Friend you benefit from your subscription by knowing that Pett Church can continue as an important part of this village.  Hope can continue of not only the presence of the church building but also of the spread of Christian faith with the comfort it brings in times of stress. Over the decades to come, whenever you or your friends and family come back to Pett and catch the first sight of the church spire, there can be the satisfaction of knowing that it is the contribution of the Friends that has ensured the survival of Pett Church.

And so we give heartfelt thanks to you for your past generosity and now especially for your generosity this year.  If you pay by Standing Order we ask that you consider a small increase.  Cash or cheques should be sent as before to the Treasurer Lesley Wilkins at Adeleine, Pett Road, Pett TN35 4HB.  Any contribution is welcome but we are hoping that the subscriptions will remain at least at £15 per person or £20 for a couple or £25 for a family.

If paying by bank transfer the account is: St Mary & St Peter Church

We hope to be able to start services again in March and we also hope to hold some services outside in good weather.  Do think of coming along!

Yours sincerely
